God has allowed us the privilege of serving overseas with ABWE as missionaries since 2007. We spent 8 years in South Africa, starting an HIV/AIDS Hospice Care Home for a few years and then providing theological training for Zulu pastors. Another part of our ministry was serving the missionaries as the team leader. In this role we learned how to best serve the missionaries and help them thrive in ministry. In 2014 our mission asked us to take the Regional Director role for East Africa. In 2018 we were asked to take the same role for Western Europe. We now live in Lisbon, Portugal and serve the 90+ ABWE missionaries in Portugal, Spain, France, England, Ireland, Germany, Scotland, and Italy. There is still a great need for the gospel in these post-Christian countries.
We have seen through our missions career that good leadership enables missionaries to thrive in ministry and the work of the gospel to flourish. Missionaries face a unique blend of difficulties (separation from family, living in a foreign country, learning a new language, discouragement, loneliness, and the list goes on). Our goal as we serve the missionaries is to do whatever we can to keep missionaries on the field and thriving in ministry!
Some of the ways we serve the missionaries are through developing them as leaders, member care visits and calls, helping with strategic planning, coaching and mentoring missionaries, conflict resolution, and working with potential new missionaries for recruitment.
